Some people use to say that the holding of knowledge is related to power. Many more are linking knowledge with competitive advantage. In our vision we want to eliminate the barriers that exist in relevance with the access to knowledge. We are planning strategies, policies and systems, we are bringing together people around the world that share a common philosophy and looking for synergies of minds, creativity and WE TAKE ACTIONS. Our members in OPEN RESEARCH SOCIETY work at international level in order to create an OPEN KNOWLEDGE DISSEMINATION INFRASTRUCTURE consisted by open editions, open networks and open systems linking people around the world. We want to promote PEACE, and SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT through an Open Knowledge manifesto. In the 1st World Summit for the Knowledge Society, this manifesto will be documented and distributed. Scope of the Journal

The OPEN RESEARCH JOURNAL on KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY is a timely journal responding to the needs of our societies towards a deeper analysis, understanding and sound propositions for the new knowledge intensive context of our living.

The knowledge society is often treated as a utopia, where optimistic considerations for the role of new technologies envision unrealistic value-adding services for citizens, and knowledge is purported to create dramatic economic advances. In the last years, several scientific disciplines have initiated debates on the characteristics of the knowledge society and the required consultations towards the establishment ofmanaging bodies, the crafting of strategies and policies as well as the specification of action programs.

Given the significance of the knowledge society as a new context of our era, four significant objectives formulate the justification of The OPEN RESEARCH JOURNAL on KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY:

1. The need to investigate the ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ aspects of the knowledge society, with the aim of providing organizational and cultural frameworks as well as infrastructures enabled by the evolution of information technologies.

2. The need to provide a sustainable worldwide knowledge society vision based on collaboration, knowledge and learning for all and especially for people in need.

3. The need to anchor government policies in scientific evidence concerning the characteristics of the emerging knowledge intensive economy and social environment.

4. The need to investigate the key priorities of the knowledge society in terms of critical aspects of human life (e.g. health, education, culture, science, business etc).

Strategies and support for:

• Creating a public knowledge and learning management environment
• Achieving sustainability and interoperability of knowledge-intensive public services in an open and accessible digital environment
• Replicating services across national borders – handling regulatory, administrative, linguistic and cultural differences
• Improving the take-up and quality of public services
• Bridging the digital divide and avoiding new forms of digital exclusion based on, e.g., education, language, culture, age or gender
• Raising the level of trust and confidence in the enabling technologies for the knowledge society
• Creating sustainable business models for the knowledge society that leverage the entire value chain and enable the full participation of as many stakeholders as possible
• Establishing policies and practices that would help to make the knowledge society an implementable reality

Editorial Board:

The Editorial Boards of all OPEN RESEARCH Journals are open. The members serve for a specific term and they are registered members of Open Research Society, or Supporters.

The OPEN RESEARCH JOURNAL ON KNOWLEDGE SOCIETY has an excellent editorial board of distinguished academics from all over the world. All the members of the editorial board are registered members or supporters of OPEN RESEARCH SOCIETY. All serve for a specific term, and new appointments are considered every year, during the World Summit of Open Research Society.
