“World Collaboration:
Doing Business in China and The Arab World”

Athens 1st World Summit on The Knowledge Society
Athens, September 24-28, 2008

Directly or indirectly, the Chinese economy has influenced interest rates, prices for raw materials and wages in the western established economies. Currently China is the most R&D intense of emerging market countries and is seventh of all countries in the world. Its economic power is exemplified by the fact that it is expected to be the fifth largest source of outward foreign direct investment during 2004- 2007. Working with Chinese firms has become a reality for a majority of managers in Western countries. With its high growth rate, the presence and impact of the Chinese economy will only become larger.

With China’s importance on the global scale set to grow faster than ever, this mini-conference offers a unique window to observe the changes that will chart the course of the future in this region of the world. One of the keys to dealing with China is understanding the complex dynamic between rapid change and tradition.

On the other hand, the Arab world is facing an unprecedented opportunity for playing a critical role in the global economic and cultural scene, not only because of the plethora of resources and the geostrategic position of the region, but mostly due to an unparalleled effort to transform the unique characteristics of the Arab Culture and management as key enablers of a developmental process in the area. There is growing consensus among leaders in the Arab world that sustained economic and political reforms are the only way to boost the growth performance of the Arab countries.

Within this context, this mini-conference is interested in the deeper understanding of the culture, business perspectives and realities of Arab world as well as in the opportunities within region. It will provide an international forum to explore global economic, educational, cultural and business collaboration in the Arab world. Promoting dialogue for sustainable development in the Arab world, the journal plays a key role in synthesizing opinions, providing sound propositions and bringing together ideas and thoughts for a prosperous future of the Arab World.
